Dr. Helen Pheby, UK

Is Curator at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, an international centre of modern and contemporary art set in 500 acres of historically designed landscape and four indoor galleries. In addition to major exhibitions, commissions and interventions, Helen is responsible for a number of offsite YSP projects, including The Observatory by the Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoa and Cratehouse for Castleford by Winter/Hörbelt.

 

Helen’s particular area of research is in developing cultural strategies that have the power to improve lives locally, nationally and internationally and she was awarded a PhD in 2003 for her research into controversial public sculpture.

 

Helen has curated an exhibition in New Orleans in the hope of contributing toward the regeneration of the city and works with ArtRole to develop cross-cultural exchange with Kurdistan-Iraq.

 

Helen is a trustee of Art Gene in Cumbria and the Civic in Barnsley.
